How do you test a Joy-Con in a browser?
Detach the Joy-Con from the Switch and hold the small round sync button on the inside rail until the four lights run back and forth. Open your computer’s Bluetooth menu, add the controller from the list, then come back to this page and press a button so the browser registers it. Move the stick through its full circle and press each button in turn.
Everything is read inside your browser and nothing about your input leaves the machine. The pairing is the only part that takes patience: a Joy-Con still bonded to a Switch will keep reconnecting there, so hold the sync button long enough to break that bond first.
Why does a single Joy-Con get no automatic verdict?
Held on its own, a Joy-Con is used sideways. Its stick sits where a right thumbstick would not, and it exposes fewer axes than a full pad, so it does not match the standard layout the Gamepad API describes [2]. When the mapping is not standard, the browser hands over the raw axis and button arrays without saying which is which.

The comparison is the useful part. A resting value of 0.12 is comfortably inside normal on an Xbox pad and close to failing on a Joy-Con. Pairing a Joy-Con to a PC or a Mac
The sync button is on the flat inside rail, near the top, and it is deliberately small. Hold it until the lights chase along the rail, which signals pairing mode rather than a normal reconnect. Windows lists the pad as “Joy-Con (L)” or “Joy-Con (R)” and macOS shows the same names.
Each Joy-Con pairs separately. There is no browser-side way to fuse a left and a right into one virtual pad, so test them one at a time. What a browser test cannot see on a Switch controller
The Gamepad API covers buttons, axes and a basic vibration actuator. It does not carry gyroscope or accelerometer data, so motion aiming cannot be checked here, and Nintendo’s HD Rumble effects are not exposed either.
